    Arun Chaudhury
Arun Chaudhury’s discoveries of the role of myosin motor proteins as the molecular basis of tandem release of neurotransmitters have provided the basis for our understanding of neuronal co-transmission. These findings provide basis for understanding of molecular pathophysiology of defective neurotransmitter release, which provide insights into irritable bowel syndrome and idiopathic gastroparesis and other gastrointestinal motility disorders which were hitherto labeled as “functional” disorders due to lack of comprehension of the molecular medicine. Loss of myosins, resulting in lack of nNOS recruitment to active zone of nitrergic nerve terminals, may also explain multiorgan complications of long-standing diabetes mellitus that manifest as gastroparesis and erectile dysfunction.
